Ger-Nis Culinary & Herb Center, located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, is a hands on recreational and educational culinary center with an emphasis on local, organic, sustainable and fairly traded foods. The culinary center offers a wide variety of hands on education and culinary classes for children and adults as well as culinary services and events space. We are aiming to give our community the opportunity to learn more about food and cook with great ease and joy while supporting good healthy habits for ourselves and the planet! We want to make sure our interns get out as much as they put in, if not more, so we are making sure we keep them focused on what they want to learn more of. We have decided to pair each internship with specific sectors of the company's growing business.
Blogging Intern: This intern will not only help us with on our current blogs, but will be a pivotal member in creating a new (to be announced) blog for the Ger-Nis Culinary Center. Ideal candidates would have Wordpress experience, InDesign, Photoshop or Adobe CS5 as well as excellent writing skills, plus a keen interest in food photography and food styling. This internship is perfect for someone trying to delve deeper into the blogging world and learn "voice" style blog writing as well as design and layout! Perfect for a future or present blogger!
Marketing & PR Intern: This intern will be in the thick of our marketing and PR campaigns helping us with our quest to grow our name as a leader in sustainable food education & events in Brooklyn. This internship will have an opportunity to help us market the entire list of our services as well as play a key role in helping us achieve targeted local and national publicity. The ideal candidate should have some experience in marketing and PR in the food world, be on top of what is "hot" now, and have a finger on the pulse of what will be. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as e-mail blasting experience. This intern will learn the ins and outs of PR in the food world, grow to be more connected to writers, bloggers, editors and photographers.
Culinary Kitchen Intern: This internship is all about learning to cook better in a working culinary classroom. The intern will help us with prep for our classes and events as well as cooking for some of our photo shoots, blogs etc. the intern also gets experience in helping us run the "office" side of the kitchen with ordering, inventories, shrink, as well as overall class management organization. Ideal candidate will have excellent kitchen skills and experience in a working kitchen and/or culinary school. Be proficient in Excel and Microsoft word. In design skills a plus.
Recipe Writing & Editing Intern: A perfect internship for someone wishing to enter the field of cookbook editing or the food publishing world in general. With over 30+ new recipes created here weekly at Ger-Nis we are looking for help in the editing and even some writing. This internship requires excellent writing and grammar skills as well as extreme attention to detail and pattern following. The intern will also need to have experience in Wordpress.
Social Media Intern: Modern times call for modern measures. This internship is all about social media and helping us continue to move into the realm of social media marketing. The candidate will need to have exceptional, facebook, twitter, tumbler, and hootesuite skills. The internship will focus on helping us achieve optimal results with our online social campaigns and the intern will work closely with the marketing department to achieve this.
PAID Culinary Class Assisting: In addition to the above internships, the interns will have the opportunity to do paid shifts assisting culinary instructors with classes as well as organizing prep work in the kitchen prior to classes and preparing handouts and all other materials needed for classes. They will set up according to instructor preferences and clean up according to procedures. Culinary class assistants will get to work with some of Brooklyn's best chefs and artisans as well as farmers and also participate in many of our events that take place in our center. We have quite a few amazing events coming up this fall and are in need of revved up culinary folks! This is an exciting opportunity for the right hard working person who wants to learn more about the food world and network and grow as a sustainable foodie!
All interns will automatically be eligible for paid shifts at special events, classes and general help.
