Slow U: Wild for Mushrooms

Sunday, November 18, 2012 (6:00pm to 8:00pm)

Mushroom Pris Fixe Dinner and Talk with Gatherers Les and Nova of Wild Gourmet Food

Les Hook and Nova Kim have been hunting the woods and fields of Vermont for wild foods, including mushrooms, for more than 80 years between them. Nova has written, "I have been taught...that all beings (the plants and the animals) are my relatives... and entitled to ...dignities and survival...in the Circle of Life...we must maintain a balance and harmony within the Circle..."

Les and Nova will provide the wild mushrooms and Jimmy's No. 43 will serve them up in a memorable three course pris fixe dinner. Join Les and Nova for a wild time of dining and chatting about what they have done so well for so long. Ticket cost does not include beverages, tax, and gratuity.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will support the programs of not-for-profit Slow Food NYC, including the Urban Harvest program of good food education for NYC kids. Urban Harvest supports programs in 12 schools, in the South Bronx, East Harlem, on the Lower East Side, and in Brooklyn and at a summer urban farm in East New York. More than a thousand Urban Harvest kids learn about the importance of good, clean, and fair food to their health and well-being, the health of their families and communities, and the health of the planet.
