Come Volunteer at Ujima Garden - Slow Food NYC's Neighborhood Farm in Brownsville
We have 3 workdays coming up where we will be preparing our expanding farm for our summer program. This summer we will host 100 children who will learn about good food by growing it, harvesting it, preparing it and eating it together. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THE GARDEN READY FOR OUR KIDS.
WORKDAY 1 - Saturday April 16th
Build Earth Boxes (self-watering containers) from 55 gallon pickle barrels
Remediate and loosen the soil with fresh compost
Plant early crops
Clean and organize kitchen and classroom
WORKDAY 2- Saturday April 30th
Plant second round of crops
Outdoor pruning
Build chicken coop and put up fencing
Put up new wooden picket fence
WORKDAY 3 - Saturday June 4
Paint our new fence
Plant more crops
Everything else we didn't get done
Location: 660 New Jersey Avenue (between New Lots and Riverdale) 2/3 train to Pennsylvania (check the weekend schedule) the 4/5 may be better
Time: 11am - 4pm
Pack a lunch and bring water. Don't forget a hat or sunscreen!
