This well known vegan restaurant in the East Village has been committed to sustainable agriculture, responsible business practices and delicious, fresh, healthful vegetarian cuisine for over thirty years. They buy direct from small, local family farms, and have maintained longterm relationships with local food artisans and purveyors—in fact they guarantee that 95% of the ingredients they use are sustainably grown and fairly traded. They filter their own water, do active composting and donate leftover food through City Harvest in order to minimize waste. (In fact, Angelica doesn't serve bottled beverages of any kind, which means no alcohol, but you can bring your own, and there's no corkage fee.) The bulk of the menu changes daily around a core of staples that have been offered since day one, led by the Dragon Bowl, a combination of rice, heirloom beans, tofu, and steamed fresh vegetables that has been known to satisfy the most committed of carnivores.
