Brooklyn Oenology Winery (pron. 'EN-ology', or simply 'BOE'), is a locally focused winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, founded in 2006 by winemaker Alie Shaper. BOE works to bridge the culinary, agricultural, and art worlds by crafting award-winning regional wines from NY State grapes and by displaying the work of New York City artists on their bottle labels.
Brooklyn Oenology wines are sold in over 150 stores and restaurants around NYC and beyond, and BOE has received a strong response from many arts and culinary organizations as well. Their aim is to celebrate the local creativity — agricultural, culinary, and visual — just as Brooklyn and the rest of the state has been doing for hundreds of years!
In November 2010 BOE opened their Tasting Room at Wythe Avenue and North 3rd Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, serving the full line of BOE wines as well as many other New York State products including Whiskies, Ciders, Wines, Beers, and a variety of other culinary treats! At the Tasting Room you can sip glasses of wine with friends, taste thorough flights of different wines, or purchase bottles to take home.
BOE does not own vineyards; they purchase their fruit directly from New York vineyards, and then manage the winemaking — from harvest through press to fermentation, tank and/or barrel storage, and then into the bottle. As they grow they plan to bring more of their process into Brooklyn itself. Currently they are fermenting at Premium Wine group, an excellent facility in Mattituck on the North Fork of Long Island. BOE is self-distributed, and also works with regional distributors in New York and New Jersey (Verity Wine Partners) and the Mid-Atlantic region (Siema Wine Parnters).
BOE's presentation is meant to evoke everything that they are: Fresh, Urbane, Creative, Authentic, Substantial, Engaged, Classic, Smart.
