Juventino started by offering fully-prepared and ready-to-cook meals to go, fresh or frozen, at exceptionally good prices; it has evolved into a kind of market-by-day serving dinner Tuesday-Sunday and brunch daily. What hasn't changed is chef/owner Juventino Avila's commitment to sourcing fresh ingredients from local farms and seafood from healthy fish stocks. Suppliers include Heritage Foods, Pampered Cow, Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op, Blooming Hill Farm and Fleisher's Grass-Fed and Organic Meats.
But Chef Juventino also has a secret weapon: his grandmother. It was in her kitchen that he learned to make the fresh, delicate tortillas that are the basis of some of his most exciting dishes. On a recent Saturday night the three-taco special featured chicken, pork and lamb from whole roasts, each simply garnished to highlight the star player, all served with a take-no-prisoners chipotle salsa. I can't wait to try Whole Hog Sunday...
