Peter Hoffman's second restaurant, Back Forty, is a moderately priced East Village “slow” destination. Back Forty is self-described as a burger joint, but it is one with a difference. Ingredients are generally regional and sustainably produced. For instance, the menu offers “The Grass Fed Burger with Home Made Spicy Ketchup & Pickle with (optional) Heritage Bacon or Farmhouse Cheddar.” The short menu also boasts house-made sausage and braised pork belly.
This trendy but down-homey joint offers creative, seasonal cocktails, a dozen beers, some local, and sustainably produced wines, with house wine from the North Fork of Long Island.
