Gramercy Meat Market

Proprietor Antero Pereira was born of French parents in Rhodesia and began his career the traditional way, as an apprentice butcher cleaning up after his seniors. But it was his work on an Idaho feedlot that taught him just how badly we treat the animals we eat, leading him to wonder, “How can this country allow people to eat what they do?” After a stint as butcher and charcutier at Anthony Bourdain’s Les Halles, Antero opened his own shop in 2002, and decided in 2005 to offer organic meats only. Much of the meat he now sells comes from grass-fed, regionally raised animals.
