Greenmarket, a program of the not-for-profit Council on the Environment of New York City, is the largest network of farmers’ markets in the United States.
From the flagship markets at Union Square in Manhattan and Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn to the dozens of neighborhood markets located throughout the five boroughs, the locality, seasonality, and freshness of what is offered is assured because Greenmarket farmers and other producers sell only what they grow, raise, catch, forage, or prepare within a strictly defined region surrounding New York City.
Nearly 200 Greenmarket producers, among them farmers on 27,355 acres, attend 44 markets during the growing season. And 16 markets are open year ‘round. Greenmarket delivers the freshest produce to New York City, preserves farm land and the farming way of life, and supports sustainability and biodiversity in our local food chain.
At Greenmarket you’ll find all you need for a “slow” feast including: vegetables and fruits, much heirloom and organic; pastured meat, poultry, and game; fresh-caught ocean fish; dairy products and farmstead cheeses; New York State wines and ciders; artisanal baked goods, jams, honey, maple syrup, and condiments. And you’ll even find flowers for the table.
