Hot Bread Kitchen

Jessamyn Waldman, the Founding Director of the not-for-profit Hot Bread Kitchen, has two passions: baking and immigration advocacy, which she practices at several international organizations.

Hot Bread Kitchen is a training program that teaches immigrants, mostly women, how to become professional bakers. Jessamyn's small but expanding cadré of international bakers express their cultural identities in the recipes they bring from home: Tortillas from Mexico, tandoori breads from Afghanistan, African breads from Togo.

Most of the fresh ingredients they use come from NYC farmers markets. Hot Bread Kitchen baked goods are available at a few NYC shops, including some with the Snail of Approval. (You can find a place to buy on their website.)
